The Platt - Facilities

Perfect for year round holidays and romantic breaks, The Platt is a detached, timbered, single-storey property at the end of long private driveway. A lovely hideaway for couples of all ages looking for a very rural, quiet location, tucked away in a peaceful spot, and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A feature corner window in the dining area provides a spectacular view of surrounding countryside, across river valleys, woodlands and fields. The large, spacious balcony and barbecue area is ideal for warm sunny days and evenings outside. In the living room, a cosy wood burner can be a welcome addition on a chilly evening or if the look of a warm fire just takes your fancy. The property is deceptively spacious, light, bright and airy with big French windows leading from the open plan living accommodation onto the decked balcony. French windows also open out from the double bedroom, so that you can lay in bed and enjoy unspoilt views of the Inny and Tamar River Valleys, and the quietness of the countryside. The kitchen is modern with plenty of workspace, cupboards and a large range cooker. There are wooden and tiled floors throughout and carpet in the bedroom.

Set in the tiny hamlet of Rezare in the Tamar Valley, midway between Launceston and Callington. Bodmin Moor is within 5 miles, and Dartmoor is 12 miles away. Both places are wonderful for walking, with amazing views, and full of history. The area is ideal for walking, fishing and other countryside activities. Within walking distance is a local pub, and just 3 miles along the main road towards Launceston is a large purpose built farm shop, café and restaurant with plenty of parking. Locally sourced produce, meats and groceries are on sale, good coffee and a varied menu is on offer. There is a well stocked village shop and post office within 1 mile at Stoke Climsland and other pubs and restaurants in the local area. Conveniently located midway between the north and south coasts, The Platt is a perfect place from which to explore the stunning coastline, sandy beaches with seas for swimming and surfing, and attractive seaside towns. Beach 21 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

The Platt - Reviews

  • Sue - West Midlands 15th October 2019

    Our stay October, 2019

The Platt is a wonderful hideaway. The panoramic views are just outstanding. It was very well equipped, home from home. The log burner was great to light in the evenings as the weather was wet and chilly. The owners left a welcome pack of fresh bread, eggs, jam and scones, thankyou so much. We had Sunday lunch at the Royal Inn in Horsebridge, we would recommend this. A thoroughly enjoyable week, despite the weather. We returned home very relaxed. Thankyou Helen for your warm welcome.

    Our stay September, 2019

The Platt is a very comfortable, well equipped and beautifully appointed property in a lovely setting. The owners, Helen and Stuart were courteous, hospitable and generous. We appreciated the goodie box on arrival very much after our long drive from Brighton and the additional wood we requested was delivered the next day. There are a couple of pubs locally - we enjoyed a drink in the Springer Spaniel, the menu looked good and had lunch in the Farm Shop which I recommend. It’s a good idea to book ahead, especially at the weekend. We elected to drive everywhere this trip and enjoyed visits to Boscastle and Bude as well as an evening production at the Minack. Overall we had a great week away with the dogs, they settled immediately which made our experience all the more relaxed. In terms of housekeeping, unfortunately for me I found the mattress and pillows soft. This did impact on the quality of my rest however not really much anyone could do once in situ as clearly based on personal preference. Otherwise, all very good indeed.

The Platt is a beautiful and absolutely quiet situated Cottage. Equipped with everything you need. A very warm welcome given by Helen. It's a perfect place to enjoy the nature. Located between Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor The Platt is ideal to make fantastic walks in this marvelous landscapes. But also the north as well as the south coast can be explored. A very nice place we really can recommend!

    Our stay August, 2019

Beautiful, peaceful place set in idyllic, quiet countryside. A well-equipped, comfortable home-from-home. We didn't need anything other than food and drink! Centrally located to visit many parts of Cornwall with fantastic walks in the Tamar Valley just a short drive away. Great roads to the coast, both north and south just a few minutes drive away so we got to do some great coastal walks. We will certainly be returning to The Platt.

    Our stay July, 2019

We were very much enthralled by our stay in the Platt and enjoyed it to the full! It was a great experience: the fact that it is rather remote is at the same time so rewarding and a real advantage! For all those who love peace and quiet this is the cottage to be! The house itself is wonderful: it is spacious, has a small terrace and a garden and is equipped with all the devices one needs to make the most of a cottage experience. One very small point of criticism: the bed/matress, actually one side (flanking the French windows), is a little too soft.

What a fantastic hideaway, perfect for that peace and tranquility, perfect location to travel around Cornwall from east to west, south to north, has everything we needed and more, perfect owners in Helen and Stuart who were there if anything was ever needed, perfect little welcoming pack of scones, jam and cream, strawberries, fresh juice, eggs and bread, all locally made, could not recommend this highly enough and really didn’t want to come home, will miss the views and quiet, along with the owls, rabbits and bob the robin, if you want a quiet, romantic, tranquil location, here is perfect, thank you Helen and Stuart, we will come again.

  • Amelia - Cheltenham 16th June 2019

    Our stay June, 2019

We stayed in this beautiful cottage the week starting 8th June and i have never stayed in such a beautiful place. The location is stunning, fields, sheep, cows and birds are your only neighbours and Helen and Stuart have helpfully provided a pair of binoculars so you can enjoy it to the max. The cottage itself is beautiful, every effort has been made to equip it to the highest standard and there wasnt a single thing that we couldnt find. The log burner is really lovely, the biggest one we've ever seen and all wood, fire lighters etc is included. We were greeted by Helen with a lovely box of goodies and told to contact them if there were any problems. From a practical stand point, there is a 24 hour tesco a short 15 minute drive away which has fuel and a costa too if you can't live without your caffeine fix! Just a couple of turns on from there there is also a big industrial park with an even bigger costa, an argos, b&m, shoe zone and several other shops which i cant quite remember. It really couldn't be in a better location and is the perfect mix of seclusion for your holiday but also within a short drive away from local amenities. It was raining most of our holiday (cant beat a british summer!) But that really didnt take away from the beauty that is The Platt. I can't recommend it enough and have already booked again for October.
