Kataluma - Reviews

    Our stay October, 2019

Sporadic hot and cold showers, with a poorly equipped kitchen with pots and pans way past their best. The extractor fan light didnt work and hood was greasy! Which meant if you opened the hood it cut out the light for the hob. Only one shelf in the fridge which was broken so constantly collapsed! Add to that it smelt as though it had been bleached, hence to say we only used the fridge for milk. The freezer needed defrosting and was unusable. I reported the showers to the owner who said it was unusual and couldn't believe fridge shelf was broken as she had just cleaned it!! So therefore felt very uncomfortable approaching her with anything else. We had no tv whislt we were there as it was not tuned in and we couldn't figure it out, we therefore had to purchase a radio for news etc add to that we also had no internet for at least 4 days. The shower drains were filthy and were clogged with hair!! Which meant we had very slippy showers when they worked as the water wouldn't drain and no slip mats!!!! I couldn't understand why I would wake constantly soaked in sweat yet I slept with the door on the latch, it was not until our last morning did I think to check the bedding and found a plastic backed mattress protector!! The cherry on the cake was being marched off the property at 10.30am. This was after being knocked on at 10am by daughter of the owner then the owner loudly banging about before parking her hetty hoover outside the door at 10.10 and saying its gone 10 to which I said we would have been on the road if we didnt have to wait for the showers!!! I noted she clearly looked like ahe had stepped out of a hot shower with wet hair. Oh she said 20 mins then she said!!! I have never felt more uncomfortable in all my years in travel! More than 25 of those as an overseas tour guide. I have had a fabulous time in Cornwall but not at this property. The property was covered in snails and slugs we found inside and out! We took care of this by simply laying salt outside. We had no more issues whilst we were there with these horrid things by keep putting down salt. The property is in need of a good clean and applianced need repair or replacement. I have never been more disappointed after a holiday!!

    Our stay September, 2019

Bedding smelt damp and sweaty as did the towels, which we had to wash on arrival. The bedding in the twin room was mottled with damp, and the duvet covers did not fit the bed, when you get in they do not go down over the sides. Cooker was very dirty, curtains had moth eaten holes in when closed. Some of the cutlery was not clean and we had to wash it.

    Our stay June, 2019

It was a very quiet and relaxing holiday. Ideal base for traveling. The owners were welcoming and on hand for help if needed. The garden was big enough for our 2 standard Poodles to use. It also got the sun later in the day which would have been lovely to sit in during the evening (if it hadn’t rained for much of our time there?) Praa Sands beach is well used by surfers but didn’t see anyone swimming so no idea if safe for children. However, as many other beaches were a short distance away this wouldn’t be an obvious disadvantage. I would go back to Kataluma again

Has everything you need, comfortable and in a central, but quiet location. Two bathrooms is a great plus. An enjoyable stay.
