Hollywell Barn - Reviews

Great location and cosy homely cottage, ignore the negative reviews as I have no idea what they were on about!! I was apprehensive at first due to those reviews however on arrival those apprehensions were completely dismissed. Clean, everything you needed for your stay. Comfy beds and great showers!!

we had the most amazing holiday. The cottage is situated in a beautiful location, and it is easy to access the main routes. The neighborhood was very quite. And after having busy days out it was wonderful to come back to such a wonderful place to stay.

Hollywell Barn is a beautifully done cottage. The garden is at the front and isnt fenced in at all which was a shame. We absolutely loved the kitchen and spent most of our time in there. Tv was the only let down, bbc i player wouldn't work and we tried to sign in on the relevant apps but nothing said no signal and there were only childrens dvds available. Saying that i would definitely return but bring a few film from home.

Brilliant cottage with lots of character and a great and quick response on the the dirty and broken travel cot she replaced it with in an hour of letting her no. We only thought that it could of been cleaned a bit better we know it's a dog friendly cottage but there was a lot of black dog hair every where and neither of our dogs have black hair but other than that it was a beautiful cottage would definitely recommend

The cottage is an excellent base for travelling around, but we didn’t find anything close by for us so it was at least a 20 minutes drive out each day. The cottage itself had everything we needed. Definitely don’t take lots of ‘self catering’ bits with you as most of it’s there already or can be bought in the local spar shop. The local pub is a good local pub. We had cheesy chips and a pint there one night. The main bedroom in the loft had a great en-suite - the shower was lovely. The bed though does need to be looked at as the bed slats had to be sorted when we got there as they aren’t fixed. The mattress was fine for the kids (they kicked me out of the biggest room, to the single beds room), but I wouldn’t be keen to have slept on the mattress - could do with changing. The single bed I slept on was actually fine, though just sitting on it I could feel the springs. Outside space would have been used if the weather was nicer, but the chairs and tables need to be looked at as they are very weather worn. Nice to see the farmers cows in the field opposite and the neighbours cat outside. The living room is quite dark, due to side of the house it’s on. Unfortunately we think it had been missed for hoovering as there was a lot of dog hair on the floor and under the sofa and on the foot stool. The rest of the house was clean though, so we think it was just missed. Nice big kitchen with a nice treat on the dining table for kids & dogs and in the fridge for the adults. While we were there we visited Looe beach a few times, Polperro, Eden project & Polkerris. We found a fabulous pub, The Plough at Duloe, though be weary of following the sat nav back to the cottage as it took us down a LOT of overgrown single lanes. Good fun though. I would recommend coming to the cottage to friends, but personally I will probably look to go on the other side of Cornwall next time.

First off the pictures of the place hide a lot of things so be warned! You follow the post code and end up looking down a rough looking back lane, this can’t be it surely but yes you go to the bottom and find out the website have taken some cover up pictures. You then have to park in a tiny spot best for small cars not SUVs. You go down the entrance to the door looks a “state” then this overwhelming smell of dog urine greets you at the door ( every morning you step out of the door you get this as well where, the neighbours dogs pees up the gate). The house it’s self is dirty, carpets are filthy, mats stained. Living room sofas are rough. Then you get to the beds all our beds line was dirty with some strange stains on them. You also get free hair inside the beds as well. Then the best part the main bed up in the attic, slats fell through when sitting on the corner. Lift the mattress up to find a mini STOOL supporting the bed frame. Yes you read that correctly a stool.(the mattress is like sleeping on bricks) You will also find many of the fixtures and fittings are hanging off, or just broken. On our last day it rained heavily and the kitchen roof leaks. Don’t go near the garden furniture that’s seen better days. We love Cornwall and the place was well below par, this place needs a lot of TLC.

The cottage is spacious and well furnished. It was clean but lots of cobwebs. The rear garden is tiny. The front garden is small. The garden furniture is old and the wood rough that you wouldn't want to sit on. This really needs to be replaced with new comfortable furniture and a couple of loungers. The mattress in the main bedroom was somewhat uncomfortable. The cottage is a away from any bigger villages or attractions so be prepared for a quite a bit of driving along very narrow roads. The Spar shop sells most things you will need. The evening we went to the pub for dinner they weren't serving food.
