Hir Barn - Facilities

Hir Barn, converted in 2022, is spacious, light and airy, ideal for families and friends to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Large bright spaces and exposed beams are intertwined with sleek modern architecture. The front door opens straight into a huge open plan ground floor, including a double height space containing a bespoke steel and glass staircase. The fully fitted kitchen with AGA has a large island unit, 10-seater dining table and full height folding sliding doors opening onto a garden giving views across the bay to Penryn. The double height sitting room with exposed oak beams includes a second set of folding sliding doors and a feature wood burner. Wrapping discreetly behind the fireplace is a concealed staircase leading to a mezzanine, perfect for lounging. There is a further sleek TV area with three designer sofas leading towards the boot room, utility room and downstairs toilet. In cases of muddy or salty paws, human or otherwise, there are stone floors and a second external door. Beyond this is a downstairs double bedroom with en-suite facilities. Upstairs are four further bedrooms and three bathrooms, including a master suite that makes the most of the barn’s original contours to give views of the bay. The south facing garden is ideal for entertaining during the day, with plenty of room for the children to play and adults to chill. In the evening why not light the fire pit and enjoy the peace and tranquillity.

Within walking distance in the village, you will find the village shop, the contemporary pub offers a relaxed atmosphere and high-quality food, and on the harbour, you will find a popular restaurant where you can eat outside and look out at the harbour, or on chilly days sit inside its quirky interior. If you don’t want to eat out the kitchen is well-equipped with everything you will need to rustle up meals from breakfast to a tasty supper.

To explore the area a popular walk is from Flushing to Mylor around Trefusis Point. It takes in views of the Carrick Roads to St Mawes, St Just In Roseland and St Anthony, right at the entrance to the harbour. There is a year-round passenger ferry linking Flushing to Falmouth, operating 7 days a week. Falmouth is full of activities such as the National Maritime Museum in Events Square, a great day out for all the family. The Square is full of lively restaurants, cafés and bars to choose from. Why not visit Pendennis Castle, the 16th-century fort, wander around the moat and the coast path or book tickets for a tour? The large expanse of Gyllyngvase beach is very popular with families and water sports enthusiasts, and is adjacent to beautiful gardens and coastal paths ideal for bird spotting. From Falmouth you can catch the ferry to St Mawes a small fishing village at the end of the Roseland peninsula. You can wander around the shops, enjoy a coffee in one of the local cafes, or catch the water taxi to other destinations on the Fal. The owner has left kayaks and surfboards for your use, or why not hire a kayak or canoe and explore the coastline, or for special occasions large powerboats are available.
