Fishermans Retreat - Facilities

The Fishermans Retreat is a typical Cornish terraced cottage in the village of Haemoor 1¼ miles from Penzance, if you walk it is 25 minutes to the sea front. Once inside you are in the living/dining room with stairs leading to the two bedrooms and family bathroom, the kitchen is off the living room leading to a small porch and then the garden. This is a fantastic property to use as a base to explore the area, it has a mix of original features such as the granite feature wall and the uneven painted walls, the wood burner, and eclectic furniture with modern touches such as the rope handrail, modern kitchen, and bathroom. The garden is an oasis of tranquillity, the owners have put up a wall with a Muriel to give guests additional privacy, the covered seating area allows this space to be used all year round, great for enjoying the starry nights, dining al fresco, or having a quiet drink. The gate at the back of the garden leads out onto a lane and is ideal if you have wetsuits, body boards or muddy walking shoes as you can leave the sand outside or in the utility room.
In the village you have a pub and some local shops, Penzance is the nearest town with supermarkets open late for any last-minute essentials, it is home to the outdoor Jubilee Pool, a wide choice of restaurants and cafés as well as the long beach. There is an abundance of beaches around, The Promenade Beach is around 1 mile long, mainly shingle as is Battery Rocks Beach, which is only accessible at low tide, Eastern Green Beach is sandy and has a sheltered aspect and sloping bottom. Another favourite beach for families is Longrock Beach, you can shelter from the wind by sitting next to the wall, the water is shallow, and you need to walk a long way to reach deeper swimming water. Famous attractions in the area are the Minack Theatre, the walks here are stunning, you may be lucky enough to spot a seal or a basking shark, it is fantastic for wildlife and the views of the rugged coastline are spectacular. Newlyn is the next small village known for its fantastic Christmas lights and the fable of the Mousehole Cat, you will find some great gift ideas in the local shops, wander around the harbour, and then have refreshment in one of the cafés or the pub. Beach 2 miles.
