Dolphin Lodge - Facilities

Enjoying spectacular views over Port Isaac Bay and surrounding countryside, these six timber lodges are furnished and equipped to a very comfortable standard providing excellent all year round holiday accommodation.
Located next to the owner’s 18th century farmhouse adjoining a 4-acre smallholding with farm animals, situated just under a mile from the unspoilt historic fishing village of Port Isaac with its harbour nestling in the folds of the steep cliffs between Rock and Tintagel.
The area around Port Isaac is designated as being an AONB. Two footpaths lead to the Heritage coast path from the farm. The sandy beaches of Polzeath, Daymer Bay and Rock are within a few minutes’ drive, with a ferry from Rock to Padstow, where bikes may be hired for a ride along the Camel Trail to the market town of Wadebridge which is 9 miles by road.
Visit the picturesque village of Tintagel which is steeped in history about its legendary castle, said to have belonged to King Arthur, with Merlin’s caves in the coves below. The quaint fishing village of Boscastle with its picturesque harbour and Bodmin Moor is easily accessible.
The area offers excellent golf courses, horseriding fishing and watersports. Shop and pub 1 mile.

Dolphin Lodge - Reviews

    Our stay October, 2019

Overall a great holiday as usual which is why we have been so many times. That being said, it was 2nd time we had visited in 2019 and was definitely not as good as the earlier visit in March. Changes such as no welcome pack this time, yet there was in March. Not sure why not. A general observation is that we never see the host, the key is just left in the door, unless we need something which I find disappointing that they don’t enquire as to whether you are ok or need anything. The chickens are allowed to roam freely and it would be good if they were a little more enclosed as they do jump on the picnic tables and leave their mess everywhere, as well as wanting to come in to your lodge when you leave the door open. Better though than the turkeys the year before. Could also definitely do with a thorough clean and update on standard items such as enough mugs, although I appreciate that it might be because it was getting towards the end of the season. Funny that the grill pan we bought with us last time and decided to leave, as there wasn’t one when we first came in 2018, was still being used as the baking tray that we were given in 2018 had never been upgraded to a grill pan from one year to the next! Would benefit from getting the basics better for 2020.

Dolphin Lodge was a delightful place to stay. The outside space was lovely and the view amazing. Lots to do\see in Port Issac, very steep walk back up! Lots of lovely beaches nearby. Expensive compared to rest of England but seemed in line with rest of Cornwall. Hope to return one day.

    Our stay July, 2019

This was probably our 12th trip to the site, we normally stay in Dolphin lodge a 4 berth log cabin. The location is great, views from the lodge are excellent and it’s walking distance to Port Isaac (doc Martin & fisherman’s friends fame) and Port Gaverne and not far from Polzeath for surfing and a multitude of cliff walks in between. It is not cheap, lower to mid range out of peak season but although over the years some things have changed (flooring/ kitchen units/ sofas) annoyingly every year there are niggly things missing/ broken. It’s as if the lodge is cleaned but the cleaner/ owners never do a proper stock check...each year I have left a list of things required for the housekeeper but they never really improve. This year there are 4 of us but only 3 glasses, the main oven works but the top oven/grill doesn’t, three saucepans but only 1 lid and two handles are almost broken off, toilet seat wobbly and shower not draining (needs a mr muscle declog) etc etc. There are also two cockerels that start crowing at dawn (4 am until 7am) daily. We will return for the views and location, but having stayed in some amazing lodges for similar prices (e.g wareham forest lodge & hawkchurch both in dorset and a privately owned lodge near Abersoch, llyn peninsular) this is a very poor cousin. We do not think the lodge deserves the star rating it gets. It should be downgraded one star at least.

    Our stay June, 2019

excellent location, peaceful and relaxing, need to be fit and prepared to walk, the only down side was the cleanliness of the lodge, which included, windows and patio doors not been cleaned, cobwebs in bedrooms, bathroom could do with a good clean, i.e. shower tray very dirty, hoven needs a good clean also sticking to kitchen area floor, would benefit from a electric shaver point in bathroom, mat to lounge area not practical, slides about when walking on it, which is a safety risk, hot water very hot would benefit from warning sign in kitchen, and a thermostatic mixer valve to basin tap. But in general it was a excellent spot and lodges are very spacious.

We have not been to Dolphin Lodge for awhile. We used to come yearly so it wad nice to re visit and see the changes that had been made. Still has the fabulous views and the animals. The lodge is a perfect base and has everything you need.
