Dolphin Cottage - Facilities

Dolphin Cottage is a delightful, end of terrace, three-storey property, perched directly above the beach overlooking the eastward side of Portmellon Cove. This charming and romantic hideaway is ideal for couples looking for a romantic escape. The cottage will also appeal to small families as there is a sofa bed in the first floor dining room/snug. With the sound of the waves breaking just outside your window, it is a tranquil and relaxing place to unwind.
Portmellon is a quaint cove just outside the small fishing harbour of Mevagissey. At low tide, Portmellon has a wide expanse of beach, ideal for families, kayaking, swimming or simply relaxing. A great local pub just a short stroll away serves good food and local ales, whilst Mevagissey village with its pretty harbour, winding streets, individual shops, art galleries, choice of cafés and restaurants, is just a 15-minute walk away.
This is a real beach lover’s haven and a great family seaside holiday home with the beach right outside the cottage. Walkers will love the easy access to miles of coastal paths and garden enthusiasts will adore the close proximity of the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. The area is popular all year round and the cottage is a favourite with storm watchers in the winter months with a cosy open fire to snuggle up in front of. From the front door, the slipway is about 30 yards away, and from every room, the sea, or sand at low tide, is forever within a few feet of the window! Beach 20 yards. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub 100 yards.

Dolphin Cottage - Reviews

    Our stay November, 2019

Quirky cottage in fabulous location overlooking sea. Lovely to listen to the waves. Slightly cluttered in the very small living areas but as only two of us wasn't a problem. We went in November and did find that the heaters weren't really adequate but there was a supplementary plug in heater that we could use. We would stay again for the location.

We must like Dolfin Cottage as this is our second visit. Since last year it has had quite a few improvements and we enjoyed our stay. We found out as we were going that Portmellon beach will be open to dogs from October to March which will be a great advantage to dog owning guests like us. We hope to make a return visit as the location is idyllic and the cottage is homely and full of character and suited ourselves and one whippet very well!

Cottage was very clean and in a fantastic position on the rocks at Portmellon but it was advertised as suitable for four people ...the brass bed on the top floor was comfortable but the sofa bed in the lounge was old and very uncomfortable indeed ...my son ended up sleeping on cushions on the floor ...good job there was only two of us and not four .The hot water came from an immersion and you had to remember to switch it on for half an hour before you wanted a bath or shower ...the shower head was small and water just trickled out of it ...no power shower ! I think it was expensive and not really value for money .

Lovely cottage perfectly perched on the edge of the bay- would certainly recommend for a peaceful break away from it all !

Dolphin is a delightful cottage set in a glorious location. The weather was great for us too. Disappointments were that the radio did not work and in Wimbledon week it would have been good to see the matches, sadly the TV was capput. Efficient water heating system and kitchen, Harry tried his best to help us with the TV . We do not have an Ipad.

Dolphin Cottage is a charming seaside themed cottage in a stunning location, a stone's throw from the beach. It is well equipped within the kitchen and living areas and was a very pleasant place to stay for a week. Particularly when the sun was shining- it is a real sun trap! Whilst I understand the age of the property, I do think that the décor is starting to look a little tired and could potentially do with a refresh. The Shower Curtain was mouldy and could benefit from a replacement, the bedding also seemed in need of a newer update. We booked the cottage for 3 people, as my 8 year old son was to stay on the bed settee. On arrival there was no bedding or towels left out for us, which meant searching through some disorganised cupboards to locate these. This could have been a better welcome. We found that some of the crockery was not clean but had potentially been put away by previous tenants, not a problem really but maybe worth the cleaners checking this when they prepare for the next guests. Finally the washing machine also leaks and we were not sure who to mention this to, as there was no contact number available. All in all we have a fabulous time in Portmellon, the short walk to Mevagissey for the main amenities was fine, worth noting that there is only a Pub and small café in Portmellon- there are no shops for groceries etc. Despite our constructive feedback, we would be more than happy to return to this little bolt hole by the sea.

    Our stay March, 2019

It was a wonderful location and very restful - plenty to see and do. The cottage was perfectly positioned and although I need of some TLC - new television, cooker hood, a less than hyper -sensitive smoke alarm - provided us with a fantastic base for a great break in beautiful Cornwall

    Our stay March, 2019

Fantastic location, views, beach, sound of the sea, mevagissey 10min walk. This place has great potential, it would benefit from from some love and attention, needs updating (especially the bathroom, showers just a trickle). Fire is a real asset, but fire back broken and smokes quite a lot (sets off smoke alarm). A welcome pack and pint of milk would be nice. Bed very comfortable and electric blanket handy( although didn't discover until half way through week).
