East End Cottage - Facilities

This charming detached cottage is situated just 100 yards from the beach in a pretty and quiet valley location. The property dates back over 200 years and is tastefully furnished to provide comfortable and cosy holiday accommodation. Porthallow is a peaceful, unspoilt fishing village with easy access to the beautiful coves and beaches of the Lizard Peninsula, the UK’s most southerly point. With easy access to explore South and West Cornwall, Porthallow is popular with those seeking a relaxed atmosphere in a traditional quaint village with superb coastal walks, quiet coves and beaches which are within easy reach of the local pub and village square. The pretty shingle beach is still home to a few colourful working fishing boats and at low tide the rock pools provide a natural play area and source of fun for children. The Lizard Peninsula has plenty to keep the whole family entertained; the famous Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, nearby Roskilly’s Ice Cream Parlour and Organic Farm, and Flambards Theme Park at Helston. The picturesque Helford river and creeks are perfect for sailing, fishing or relaxing in one of many great local pubs serving delicious food. The South West Coastal Path runs through the village with dramatic coastal walks in both directions and stunning views across Falmouth Bay. With many ship wrecks dotted along this stretch of coastline, the area is a great destination for divers and there are several local diving schools in the area including one at Porthkerris. The pretty square at St Keverne, just 3 miles, has a good range of shops and two friendly pubs. The historic town of Helston is home to the Flurry Dance and Flora Day in May. The old harbour and town at Porthleven with pubs, cafes, curiosity shops and art galleries dotted along the harbours edge. The busy harbour and marinas of Falmouth, with the National Maritime Museum, Pendennis Castle, water sports, boat trips and wide selection of shops, restaurants and cafes are all just a short drive. With a rugged coast line, hidden coves, wildlife haven and artist paradise, The Lizard Peninsula is a great holiday destination for those seeking a tranquil break. East End Cottage is a great choice for families or friends, sleeping 6 comfortably. Beach 100 yards. Pub 100 yards.

East End Cottage - Reviews

Absolutely beautiful cottage and in a fantastic peaceful village. We had an amazing holiday and location was perfect to see all that Cornwall has to offer. We can’t wait to come back again.

East End cottage is in a lovely location on the Lizard peninsula. We found the cottage to be warm and very comfortable, the kitchen is extremely well equipped, much better than we usually find. There were biscuits and milk in the fridge as a welcome when we arrived. Downstairs the property has a lovely double ended lounge with log burner at either end, we were supplied with a basket of logs for each. The bedrooms are a little dated but the double bed, which is the only one we used was comfy. We had a problem of no hot water but this was sorted out extremely quickly and was an issue with the electric timer needing to be replaced so shouldn't happen again. The village pub is now up and running again which was great to see. We had a fantastic relaxing week and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the cottage to friends

Very cosy cottage, we'll equipped and wanting for nothing. We even liked the shades of green on a couple of the walls. Great location, 30 yards from a dog friendly pub and a beach with few tourists.

Holiday details had a local pub with good food and beer......it had been shut for 6 months I wouldn't have selected this had I known

We love the cottage and have been there before. It is peaceful, relaxing, spotless, well-equipped and within easy walk of the sea. Just up the road is a great informal cafe and on the beach itself another eaterie run by the previous landlord of the now closed public house. The road is windy and narrow to get there but we've not had an accident yet! The only caveat I'd give is that the mattress and pillows in the main bedroom could possibly do with an upgrade now as the life and comfort of both seems to have run their course and a good night's sleep was not always had. I'd thought the same last time we went a few years' ago and it didn't stop us going again-I'd just hoped for a change by now. But I'd still go again in a heartbeat.

This was our second stay at East End Cottage & we enjoyed another lovely week. Wouldn’t hesitate to book again if we visit the same area in the future.

We loved our stay at East End cottage. it had a beautiful feel about it, quaint and perfectly situated close to the beach ! only space for 1 car but there was a road side area 40m up the road which worked along with parking on the beach. Pebbled beach but it made no difference to the kids who played and played on the beach and the "out rock" for hours on end. All in all we loved our time in Porthallow ;-)

    Our stay August, 2019

The cottage was neat, well equipped with everything we needed, and clean. The beds are very comfy and bedding was supplied. I did find it a bit of a pain to bring our own towels however. There was a welcome pack of tea, coffee, biscuits, and milk which was very welcome after a long drive! The location is beautiful, and very quiet, but not close to many local amenities. The pub down the road was shut down which was a shame as the next nearest is The Three Tuns which was a lovely place for a meal, but is a 5 or 6 minute drive or a 40 minute walk if you wanted to have a drink. This is also the location of the nearest shop, so make sure you have basic supplies with you until you can get to a supermarket (There is a Sainsbury’s a 25 minute drive away in Helston). There is a pop up bar/cafe down by the beach which we didn’t get a chance to try as the times they served food weren’t compatible with our schedule. Although pebbly, the beach was lovely with very clean water and the kids had hours of fun snorkelling above the rocks and jumping off into the sea when the tide was up. When it was down they very much enjoyed rockpooling and climbing. Overall, we had a lovely stay and would come again, but it would definitely be improved if the pub/restaurant was open.

A lovely location, good for exploring the local area. As we were a party of six adults I was concerned that there was only one bathroom but having sinks in three of the rooms solved that problem. It is a pity that the shop/post office has closed and that the pub was also closed. The pop up cafe in the village hall was however very good.
