Tavern House - Facilities

Tavern House is in a superb position on the seafront with wonderful sea views. The world-renowned Hotel Tresanton is nearby and both Henry VIII’s picturesque St Mawes Castle and the harbour with its wide range of shops and facilities are within easy walking distance. There are sea views from almost all rooms across St Mawes bay with its moorings and to St Anthony’s Headland opposite. The Lizard peninsula acts as a distant backdrop to a range of boatcraft plying the waters between St Mawes, Falmouth, Helford and beyond, including the popular St Mawes-Falmouth ferry.

Tavern is also ideally placed for the beach. It sits in the centre of the seafront houses lining the wall immediately above the popular Tavern Beach, and is equidistant between both beach access points: it’s easy to see why Tavern gives its name to the beach. Thought to date back to 16th century, it is a house full of character. Legend has it that the house was initially built as an inn to serve Henry VIII’s newly built castle and its visitors.

The front door leads into the hall, and a curved coat cupboard said to have been made from a boat hull. A large living room to the right of the hall has a range of comfortable sofas and chairs, a TV, DVD player and French doors which open onto the sea views and seating in the front garden. On the left of the hall is the dining room with table and chairs seating eight, again with French doors opening onto the front garden.
The practical kitchen is well equipped with electric cooker, dishwasher, fridge and freezer and leads to the utility room which houses the washer/dryer and extra sink. The back garden is accessed from the kitchen via steep steps to a small grassy area.

The front garden is paved and has a small table and seating area and extensive sea views. This is just the place to relax and watch the sea or people watch. The back garden has both a grass and a paved terrace, but please note it is accessed by steep steps and is not suitable for small children without supervision. Sleeping eight, this is a comfortable house which provides good versatile accommodation. Parking is available in the village car park. No dogs allowed, but if you have allergies, please be aware that historically, dogs have been in the house. Beach ½ mile.
