Downhouse - Facilities

These two stone built holiday cottages date back to the 17 century and enjoy a rural location with superb sea views. Pet-friendly Downhouse Cottage was extended in Victorian times, while Downhouse has a rustic feel with a clome oven in the fireplace and a large garden. Both cottages benefit from a sitting-out area with stunning views of the coastline. Surrounded by countryside, they are perfect for walkers to enjoy the views from the South West Coastal Path. Ideally situated for visiting some of the many attractions of Cornwall, including Tintagel, the mythical home of King Arthur, Boscastle with its harbour and Port Isaac, made famous by the TV’s ‘Doc Martin’. Further down the coast are Polzeath with its surfing beach, and Rock where you can take a ferry across to Padstow with its array of interesting shops, pubs and restaurants, including Rick Stein’s famous restaurant.

Beach 1 mile. Shops, pub and restaurant 1 mile. The properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 9 guests.

Downhouse - Reviews

    Our stay February, 2020

We stayed during the week of Storm Dennis, but the cottage was cosy and warm the whole time. The facilities were excellent and the host very friendly and attentive. We had everything we need, and the dogs loved the huge garden. There are dog walks literally on the doorstep. Amazing views, great location, good value for money. We’ll be back !

Lovely quirky well equipped cottage. It is a half hour walk downhill and 35-40min uphill from the nearest pub which was fine for us as we were fit. In the summer it would be easier. We would go back again. 😊

A fabulous stay. Owners greeted us on arrival and very helpful. Cottage clean, warm and full of character. Beautiful setting. Great walks and close to beach. Highly recommend.

Was lovely but felt that we couldn’t relax as was told to not turn the heating up and to not use plug in radiator. Also she told us that the Rayburn was on really low as it cost to much to put oil in it and not to turn it up.We were made to feel a little uneasy for the first couple of days and paying over £900 for the property you want to be made to feel that you can make it your home. But location and property were lovely.

Perfect relaxing cottage. Old style decor Kitchen fantastic, spent most of our time there.Wonderful rustic charm.Panoramic views great.Garden lovely, shame weather did not allow us to use it. Spiral staircase took a while to get used to, but is part of the charm of the place. We loved it and would return . Great base to see North Cornwall

Lovely old cottage in great location, suitable only for the able bodied: the spiral staircase to the bedrooms and bathroom was very difficult for my disabled wife

Lovely quaint cottage , location rural which was perfect for us walking ,views beautiful outside and from kitchen and main bedroom windows. All mod cons available , spiral staircase is narrow but did not affect our stay as also aware prior to booking . Would definitely recommend .

Downhouse is a lovely cosy cottage dotted around with charming antique touches. We loved the sea views from the cottage and also the beautiful garden that came with the cottage. I stayed there with four children; so one adult and 4 children and it was just right! The only hitch was the one bathroom but it was not a big issue as we were out most of the time. We did enjoy coming back from a day on the beach and having a shower with plenty of hot water for all of us. The cottage is also ideally situated to explore fishing villages like Port Isaac and the lovely town of Wadebridge. Gina the owner was very helpful with suggestions for good beaches and restaurants and also fishmongers.

Really disappointed: upholstery & rugs obviously not cleaned in some time, crockery had dried food stuck to it as dishwasher full of food debris, mattress atrocious! Owners evidently have lost interest in providing a good standard. Just don't.

Amazing location, but unfortunately the cottage needs a major face lift despite the charm. Also currently not recommended to stay in during the colder months as it’s absolutely freezing and won’t heat up even with all radiators blaring at all times. Owners were very accessible and helpful though.
