Apple Tree Cottage - Facilities

Set in 70 acres of beautiful pastures leading to the Coombe Valley. As the name suggests, Sanctuary Farm Cottages provides a wonderful sanctuary in which to relax and unwind. Converted to a good standard, these four pretty barn conversions, built using authentic materials, retain plenty of character with vaulted ceilings, exposed stonework and oak wooden floors. The holiday cottages are set on a mixed working farm and have been individually decorated to provide an ambience of peace and tranquillity. Woods Close is perfect for couples and has its own private balcony and sitting-out area boasting wonderful views. Apple Tree Cottage, Orchard Close and April’s Cottage are all ideal for couples. Each one different, they offer couples a relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle of life. Guests are free to wander the woodlands and natural grounds or take the 1½ mile walk through woodland which leads to the sandy dog friendly beach at Duckpool.
There is a profusion of cliff, beach and moorland paths for walkers to enjoy - why not start with the coastline’s Heritage Trail. The cottages are ideally placed close to the spectacular National Trust Coastal Path, which boasts access to superb bays, beaches and coves. Tamar Lakes is just 6 miles where you will find coarse and trout fishing, sailing, wind surfing and canoeing. The pretty village of Kilkhampton with its beautiful church is just 1½ miles and offers two pubs, a supermarket, butchers and a good range of village shops and take-away food outlets. The pretty fishing villages of Port Isaac, Tintagel and Clovelly are close by and there are many National Trust properties in this stunning location. For family fun don’t miss the The Big Sheep and Milky Way Adventure Parks or for an adrenalin fuelled day for young and old why not try The Ultimate Adventure Centre or the North Devon Wake Park for water sports fun. Bude, 5 miles, has shops, pubs, restaurants and facilities for golf, swimming and ten pin bowling. There is horse riding in the village and there are four golf courses within a 30-minute drive, including the Ivyleaf Golf Course which is just 3 miles away. Beach 1½ miles. Shop and pub 1½ miles.
The properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 10 guests.

Apple Tree Cottage - Reviews

  • Sarah - London 20th September 2019

    Our stay September, 2019

We stayed in Apple tree cottage for 10 days, it was perfect and we had the best time! The cottage was clean and cosy and had everything we needed. The owner was very welcoming and left a cream tea on arrival. The location was great, right out the way so very quiet and peaceful, the road to the cottage is a narrow lane, then goes onto to a track, so was quite bumpy, but it was worth it!

Lovely dog friendly cottage with great owners in a picturesque rural location. The lack of WiFi actually made the break even more relaxing.

This was a great base with so many beaches close by. Not for people who want to stare at phones. Good pubs and shops all sound and dog friendly. We will be staying again.

A lovely cottage in superb farm-based location. Very friendly welcome. Comfortable bed with clean linen and towels. Quite remote which is fantastic as an escape and some excellent walks through woodlands and local costal paths. Beautiful beaches when tide is out with walks all the way to Bude on golden sand (tide come in quickly so be wary of tide times). We had our dog who also really enjoyed her holiday; Apple Tree Cottage is on a working farm and dogs need to be kept on a lead. There are outdoor facilities which were great, but you would need to keep the dog on a lead. We would definitely recommend this cottage and the friendly owner to someone looking for a bit of an escape from the chaos of the town. No internet - this was brilliant as was the poor mobile signal. This just improved the ability to switch off and enjoy a well deserved holiday without being distracted.

Cottage is lovely, set in beautiful countryside and the owners are very friendly. One problem is access to the place, it is called Sanctuary Farm for a reason. From the village you have to travel down a narrow winding lane and then turn up a long narrow track to the farm. Not the most comfortable journey when you are hoping that you wont meet someone/thing coming the other way. All the reviews comment on the beauty of the place which I agree with but I must admit that I didn't expect 'the long drive' to the cottage to be so trying, more fitting for a SUV or a Land Rover. Would I go back, not really which is no reflection on the place or the owners, just not what I expected.

A wonderful warm welcome to a lovely cottage in a fantastic location in a wooded valley on a working farm. We had a wonderfully peaceful stay. No signal, which was no problem for us. Many lovely walks from the doorstep. An abundance of wildlife. Very friendly hosts. Only downside was no enclosed space/garden for just letting the dogs for a wee, but there is a public footpath right on the doorstep. Would not put me off booking this again however, purely for the location.

A perfect way to unwind with a well needed rest surrounded by beautiful rural countryside. We felt completely relaxed. Susan and her family were very welcoming and the scones on arrival were just perfect. It was also lovely to meet their cats Phil and Smudge who were adorable. Thank you Susan to you and your family for your hospitality and kindness.
