Located next door to the owners’ Wheal Tor Hotel, the highest inn in Cornwall, this exceptionally well-appointed, contemporary, architect-designed house is 996 feet above sea level. It benefits from an outstanding vantage point with the most spectacular views stretching across the landscape. Wheal Tor House stands detached and has a spacious living/dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows along the entire length of the property. Bi-fold doors open out on to a huge, fully enclosed decked patio at the side, which has a fire pit, barbecue and large tables and chairs. The sleeping arrangements are really flexible in the house as well. The master bedroom is on the first floor and has an en-suite shower room. Across the landing is a second bedroom with a zip and link super kingsize bed. This room also has two additional single beds, and is therefore is perfect as a family room. Downstairs in an annexe/ante chamber just off the living area with a double sofa bed, and a shower room located right beside it. The dining area is really spacious with a huge table, perfect for a family celebration, and the kitchen is very roomy and really well equipped. Children are also catered for, with a large supply of toys, a beautiful handcrafted rocking horse, a pummel horse and a selection of books, games and DVD player.
A few steps lead off the decking onto the open moorland, home to roaming wild ponies, Highland cattle and sheep, which sometimes come right up to the windows. There is a huge abundance of wildlife, including many species of native British garden birds, owls, buzzards, stoats and badgers foraging amongst the bracken. Caradon Hill is a recognised National Park, a World Heritage Site, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is also a Dark Sky area, and the sky at night is a sight to behold.
With the owner’s hotel next door, you can also free yourself from the cooking chores and maybe dine in style each evening, have a full English breakfast in the morning or pop in for a pint. Beach 12 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant on-site.
